Silver Dragon is the latest book from Zoe Chant. In it we meet two seniors - human Bird & dragon shifter Mikhail & follow them on their way to happily ever after. Neither the title nor the book description say that this is the start of a series, but it feels like there may be more books to come.Bird is an author or at least she was. That was before her ex husband stole her confidence & inspiration as well as keeping her from her children for 27 years. She lives simply on a small income, spending her days painting or helping one friend or another as she can. In fact, she's in the process of helping a friend record a murder scene on the beach when she sees a handsome stranger she can't keep her eyes off. But a man like him could never be interested in her, could he?Mikhail has lived for centuries & is in his twilight years, at least as far as dragons go. But his dragon doesn't hesitate to point out they're still young & strong enough to carry out the mission he's been given. While investigating on the beach, he sees a murder in progress & swoops in to the rescue. Or at least he thought he did. He never had a clue it was just a scene from a mystery. And he never expected that the victim would be the mate he'd thought he'd never find. Will he be able to claim his mate & protect her from the danger waiting for him?This book started a little slow for me & I wasn't sure was going to continue reading. But, as usual, Ms Chant came through & I got caught up in the story. In fact, I liked it so much I bought it right after I finished reading it through KU. The main characters are both seniors, a trend I appreciate as I'm one myself. It's nice to see characters my age finding happiness. Mikhail & Bird are both likeable, intelligent characters that grew on me quickly. Bird's quirks hid a surprising strength while Mikhail was delightfully awkward as he tried to learn how to court his mate. The story line had some good twists & some mythic shifters that I haven't come across in books before, which is always a fun change. The fact that Mikhail was an Asian type dragon rather that the usual European type was a nice touch. The story explains just enough of Mikhail's culture to make it interesting without overdoing. All in all, I'm hoping that there will be another book in this series. There are several characters that are crying out for their own story to be told.
I love books like this, they give me hope for second chances. Like all of the author’s books, I was immediately drawn into this story and did not want to leave until the end. I felt emotionally connected to the characters and was cheering for the HEA. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
I have never been more surprised than I was at how much I enjoyed this book. Zoe Chant has always been hit or miss with me. This story is very much a hit. The story line is refreshingly different and the pace was good. Not so much back story that you get bored. I would have liked to learn more about Mikhail life but enough was presented keep the story interesting. You don't see stories of older lovers getting their HEA, in fact this was my first. The supporting characters are colorful and likable. I can't wait for them to get their own story. I also didn't notice any editing problem. So all in all I would recommend this book.
In a lot of paranormal books the guys are old but look young. In this story the guys are aged in a good way - sexy handsome and cool. I enjoyed how Mikhail had to ask for help in the proper way to court Bird (love the name). The different shifter types was new - more Asian I guess. There was not one part of this story that I did not like. I recommend this read - enjoy.
I read the blurb and saw this story was about older adults and a dragon shifter - yes, please! Reading the book, they are both into tea, and she makes references to P.G. Wodehouse’s Jeeves and Bertie - even better! And Asian mythology influences were fun. I really enjoyed this book and plan to read more in the series as they come out.
Just goes to show it's never too late for love. Happy Bird's kids turned out well after her ex-husband excluded her from their lives. Didn't realize it was the start of a series ......hurrah!
It is a pleasure to read about someone close to my age rather than about a 20-30 something. We like adventure too and hunky older men or women. I will be buying Silver Fox.
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this couple's story very much. Eagerly waiting for the next book in this series. Thank you for writing this story.
