Mr. Hartman is one of the finest writers on fuel systems and engine management that i have read. his writing is in depth, understandable, and actually quite funny in spots (intentionally so). I bought this book and his turbocharging books after reading his book on Engine Management. The wealth of knowledge in each book is delightful. Each of his 3 books begins with the history leading up to the current state of the art, then goes into detail on the various aspects of choice, installation, and tuning.
The first part of this book had me truly captured with the history and workings of superchargers, all types. However, I am building an old school 454 with a roots type blower, carbureted. The book is all about new technology and will not help me to deal with my setup. The latter part of the book covers all aspects and types, but with electromic controls and fuel injection. I will have to get an older book to do this, which some are referenced in this book, because the author understood he was not writing for the old way. Well written book, easy to understand and great pictures. Buy it, either way you choose to go.
I like to order these books they provide a wealth of information and do a tremendous job educating me before I spend any money

I was hoping that this book would help me set up my supercharger on my sbc...not help at all :( lots of tech stuff..
very nice book
One really does have to be a "rocket scientist" to understand this book. I was looking for a "hands on", do it yourself buying and installing guide. There is only one chapter on practical application and installation. I'm going to return the book for a refund.
